Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, North Carolina

I have a lot of family buried in this cemetery along with some childhood friends.  It's also one of my favorites.  I used to live a block or two away when I was very young...probably 6 or 7 years old.  I used to play hide and seek here but as soon as the sun would start going down, I had to be out of it.  It terrified me to be there after dark!  But, now it's one of my favorite places to visit when I go home.

Davis Cemetery in Davis, California

James and I took a road trip one day last year and found a few local cemeteries to meditate.  This one is in Davis, California.  Just about a 25 minute drive from Citrus Heights and sitting in the heart of Davis, it boasted astonishing monuments to the dearly departed.  What I really liked about this place was the uniqueness of some of the headstones.  The different shapes, sizes...but each obviously selected with a lot of love and devotion to the people who had passed.

My favorite is the angel...notice how the flowers she carries have faded on the top from the elements but the ones on the bottom have richer colors.  She drew me to her...I have several other pictures of her from different angles, but this was my favorite.

I collect angels of different kinds and display them in a glass cabinet over my television at home.  I feel a sense of calm and reverence when I look at them.  That's why the angels in the cemetery attract me, I guess.

Enjoy...

Some of my favorite memories...are in cemeteries.

I find cemeteries strangely peaceful.  One of the few places on the planet I can sit, meditate, and feel completely at ease.  I'm sharing some of my favorite pics from Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta.  I visited there with my dear friend, Anne-Marie Trout, last year and fell in love with the peace and beauty in this place.
