New addition to the family...

After the loss of our Lucy girl, we knew the best way to honor her memory was to adopt another puppy from the pound. We hadn't planned to do this so soon, but this little girl found me.
.
I dropped by Sacramento Animal Control on Bradshaw Sunday afternoon. They usually aren't open on those days, but on the first Sunday of each month, they have special adoption events. I dropped by only to leave a package of medications that Lucy had been on for the last few weeks. We didn't need them and I thought they might be useful to the vets there. After all, Lucy was the first of three dogs I adopted from them: Lucy, Ricky, and Odie.
.
While visiting, this little bundle of joy was sitting in a cage with 3 other dogs. She was in the corner being very timid and shy. When the other dogs would get to close, she'd shiver and shake and start crying. A few other people were trying to get her to come over to the cage door so they could pet her. She was so scared that she wouldn't move. So, I knelt down and talked to her very quietly and said that everything was going to be okay. She ran to the cage door and climbed up the door trying to get to me.
.
I was hooked.
.
I got one of the officers to let her out for a while. I sat with her for about 30 minutes...she finally stopped shaking and started licking my face. The volunteers there said that she had been so afraid of everyone else that only one other person had taken her out of the cage. So, I paid my $111 fees and they scheduled her surgery. They said that she was found in a field and only know that she cowers when people reach for her like they are about to hit her.
.
We believe that she is part Chihuahua and part miniature Doberman or Pinscher somewhere in the age range of 2 or 3 years old. She is truly a sweet dog and I can't wait to bring her home on March 12th after her surgery. We're looking at names and haven't made any decisions about that at all yet. They call her Tinker Bell at the pound, but James and I said "Absolutely not!"
.
We miss our Lucy terribly, but I am sure she would be proud that we're giving another lost dog a shot at a long and happy life with us.
.
Many blessings to you and yours!

My Lucy girl...

Lucy had a very bad night last night and we went to the vet this morning. About an hour ago, we put her down. She went quick and peacefully in my arms and I stayed and held her for a while to say my good byes. I know it was probably the right thing to do, but the guilt is killing me this morning.
.
Thank you all for your well wishes. Your friendship and support mean the world to me! While I'm crying my eyes out this morning, I know that she had a great life here with me since she was 4 weeks old. She would've been 14 on June 1st.
.
Blessings to you all and keep us in your thoughts.

I am now a pimp!!

I passed my Project Management Certification exam!!

Hardest test I've ever taken including my real estate exam. I barely completed in the 4 hours allotted and I'm mentally drained.

Fire bad. Tree pretty. Beer good.

It ain't easy being a pimp!

Sincerely,

Ray Fisher, PMP

Disneyland and other news...

Disneyland is calling my name again, and honestly, who am I to resist? I booked a trip in October for James and me to drive down for his 27th birthday. We’re heading out on October 14th and rolling back home on the 19th. I’m already vibrating with excitement because I get to see my dear friend, Marina Campana, while we’re there!

Marina and I did a few shows together back in our Sacramento days before she packed up, moved to LA, and started living her best Hollywood-extra life. I’ve spotted her on Will & Grace, Charmed, and even in XXX: State of the Union—blink and you’ll miss her, but she’s there! Lately she’s been auditioning for some major film roles, and I’m over here cheering like a proud stage mom. I adore her, and I cannot wait to catch up. The last time I saw her was in 2005 when she spent a day at Disneyland with me and Anthony Avery—during that magical year when I wasn’t working and somehow managed to go to Disneyland eight times in nine months. I had a season pass and zero shame.

Meanwhile, in real-life-adulting news, James is job hunting and has a few leads thanks to friends at the Dharma Center. I’m allegedly on a four-week break from college, but “break” is a strong word. I’m studying for my PMP exam, trying to get my real estate license reinstated, and basically doing everything except relaxing. Mom is back in North Carolina until the holidays, so James and I have the house to ourselves. Justin came to stay with us this past weekend, which was wonderful because I haven’t had much time with him lately.
Theater, on the other hand, is… well… a distant memory. I haven’t seen any shows, and honestly, I’m avoiding them on purpose. Partly because of some lingering negative feelings, and partly because I know myself. The second I sit in a theater, I’ll start itching to audition for something, and I do not have time to spiral into a rehearsal schedule right now. To keep my creative brain from shriveling up, I’ve been doing some video projects and writing new music.

Speaking of theater, I got an email from Mara Davi’s dad this week. Mara had a fantastic interview in Playbill about her new role in The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway. You can read it here: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/111064.html. I really need to get myself to NYC to see her in this show because everyone says she’s phenomenal.

Back to school stuff—surprisingly, I’m really enjoying my classes. My last one was Advanced Composition, which is hilarious because English has never been my strongest subject. I ended up with an A-, but my final research paper only got an 86 because of stupid formatting errors. APA and I are not friends. I need to start using the university’s writing center—they’ll actually look over your paper and help you fix that nonsense before you turn it in. Imagine that.

Oh! I also created a music page on MySpace and I’m planning to upload some of my songs. Once I finish my degree, one of my goals is to spend more time writing and polishing my music and maybe even self-publishing some of it. They may not be Grammy material, but right now they’re just sitting in a notebook gathering dust. Might as well set them free.

May your day be filled with blessings, joy, and maybe even a churro if the universe is kind.
Thanks for stopping by!
