Disneyland is calling my name again, and honestly, who am I to resist? I booked a trip in October for James and me to drive down for his 27th birthday. We’re heading out on October 14th and rolling back home on the 19th. I’m already vibrating with excitement because I get to see my dear friend, Marina Campana, while we’re there!
Marina and I did a few shows together back in our Sacramento days before she packed up, moved to LA, and started living her best Hollywood-extra life. I’ve spotted her on Will & Grace, Charmed, and even in XXX: State of the Union—blink and you’ll miss her, but she’s there! Lately she’s been auditioning for some major film roles, and I’m over here cheering like a proud stage mom. I adore her, and I cannot wait to catch up. The last time I saw her was in 2005 when she spent a day at Disneyland with me and Anthony Avery—during that magical year when I wasn’t working and somehow managed to go to Disneyland eight times in nine months. I had a season pass and zero shame.
Meanwhile, in real-life-adulting news, James is job hunting and has a few leads thanks to friends at the Dharma Center. I’m allegedly on a four-week break from college, but “break” is a strong word. I’m studying for my PMP exam, trying to get my real estate license reinstated, and basically doing everything except relaxing. Mom is back in North Carolina until the holidays, so James and I have the house to ourselves. Justin came to stay with us this past weekend, which was wonderful because I haven’t had much time with him lately.
Theater, on the other hand, is… well… a distant memory. I haven’t seen any shows, and honestly, I’m avoiding them on purpose. Partly because of some lingering negative feelings, and partly because I know myself. The second I sit in a theater, I’ll start itching to audition for something, and I do not have time to spiral into a rehearsal schedule right now. To keep my creative brain from shriveling up, I’ve been doing some video projects and writing new music.
Speaking of theater, I got an email from Mara Davi’s dad this week. Mara had a fantastic interview in Playbill about her new role in The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway. You can read it here: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/111064.html. I really need to get myself to NYC to see her in this show because everyone says she’s phenomenal.
Back to school stuff—surprisingly, I’m really enjoying my classes. My last one was Advanced Composition, which is hilarious because English has never been my strongest subject. I ended up with an A-, but my final research paper only got an 86 because of stupid formatting errors. APA and I are not friends. I need to start using the university’s writing center—they’ll actually look over your paper and help you fix that nonsense before you turn it in. Imagine that.
Oh! I also created a music page on MySpace and I’m planning to upload some of my songs. Once I finish my degree, one of my goals is to spend more time writing and polishing my music and maybe even self-publishing some of it. They may not be Grammy material, but right now they’re just sitting in a notebook gathering dust. Might as well set them free.
May your day be filled with blessings, joy, and maybe even a churro if the universe is kind.
Thanks for stopping by!
